Woodcutting

Gathering skill

Woodcutting is the skill of felling trees for logs. Each cut grants Woodcutting experience and places logs in your backpack.

Alpha guide. All values on this page are current Alpha data. Additional trees and axes will be added during development.

Mechanics

Chopping requires an axe (carried or equipped) and a tree of a type you have the level for. Each action channels for a fixed time, then grants XP and one log; the tree then becomes unavailable for a short respawn. A higher axe tier is required for higher trees, and axe speed bonuses reduce the channel time of every cut.

All skills use the same experience curve. Level 100 is skill mastery (955,336 XP); level 999 is legendary mastery (253,245,203 XP). See the experience table for the full curve.

Tips.
  • Carry an Iron Axe from level 1 — it is usable immediately and cuts 10% faster than Bronze. Switch to Steel at level 6.
  • Willows overtake oaks in XP per hour at level 30 despite the longer cut time; switch as soon as the level and an Iron Axe allow.
  • Logs are consumed by Firemaking (level 1+) and are planned inputs for Woodworking. Burning what you cut trains both skills from the same inventory.
  • Unwanted logs can be sold on the Tideboard.
