Firemaking

Gathering skill

Firemaking is the skill of lighting logs. A lit fire is a cooking station; logs are also the fuel consumed by furnaces when smelting.

Alpha guide. All values on this page are current Alpha data.

Mechanics

Lighting a fire requires a Tinderbox and logs. The action consumes one log, grants XP, and creates a fire in the world where you stand; fires burn out after a time. Fires do not produce an item.

Logs also serve as furnace fuel for Blacksmithing. Each log type has a fuel value; smelting recipes consume fuel from stocked logs (bronze bar 2, iron bar 3, steel bar 5).

All skills use the same experience curve. Level 100 is skill mastery (955,336 XP); level 999 is legendary mastery (253,245,203 XP). See the experience table for the full curve.

Tips.
  • The Tinderbox is not consumed and has no tier; one is enough permanently.
  • Oak logs overtake regular logs in XP per hour at level 15, and oak's furnace fuel is higher too. If you are training Firemaking alone, cheap regular logs to 30 are equivalent.
  • Firemaking pairs with Woodcutting at the same level bands (Tree 1, Oak 15, Willow 30) — logs can be burned as they are cut.
  • A fresh fire is a free cooking station; light one where you fish to cook the catch on the spot.
