Purchase & Membership Terms
Effective: 16 July 2026 · Last updated: 16 July 2026
The short version. This page explains what happens when you pay us money. It sits alongside the Terms of Service, which cover everything else.
- Membership is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. You buy a block of days. Nothing renews. Nothing is ever charged automatically. When your days run out, your Account simply goes back to being a free Account.
- Days stack. Buy 30 days when you have 10 left and you have 40. Days count down in real time from the moment they are added — they do not pause.
- You are always charged in US dollars. If we show a price in your local currency it is an estimate for information only. Your bank sets the real conversion rate and may add its own fee.
- We never see your card number. You pay on Stripe's or PayPal's own page. We receive only a confirmation and some details about the payment, never the card itself.
- Your days arrive immediately. The contract is made when we credit your Account, which happens as soon as your Payment Provider confirms the payment.
- If you are in the EU or the UK you normally have 14 days to change your mind — but you give that right up at checkout. Because your days start working straight away, we ask you to tick a box confirming you want immediate access and understand that you are giving up the 14-day cancellation right. You cannot buy without ticking it. Everything else in these Terms is subject to your statutory rights, which we cannot take away.
- Everywhere else, refunds are at our discretion. We will look at any genuine problem. Ask us — we would rather fix a payment than argue about one.
- Refunds take back the days. If we refund a purchase we also remove the days it bought. This can end your Membership immediately.
- Bans and deletion do not refund your days. If your Account is banned or you delete it, unused days are lost.
This summary is a guide. The numbered clauses below are the actual terms, and they win if the two ever disagree.
1. Who you are contracting with
- These Purchase & Membership Terms ("Purchase Terms") are between you and Pixel Glitch Studios ("we", "us", "our"), the trader that operates Isles of Calamity ("the Game") and islesofcalamity.com and its subdomains ("the Site"). Isles of Calamity is a trading name; Pixel Glitch Studios is our studio name. Neither is a separate legal person.
- Our trading details: Pixel Glitch Studios, an unincorporated sole proprietorship based in California, USA. This line will be updated if the studio incorporates.
- You can reach us about anything on this page at support@islesofcalamity.com, or by writing to the address above. Email is the fastest route and the one we monitor.
- We are based in California, United States. We sell to players in other countries, and where the law of your country gives you rights we cannot contract out of, those rights apply — see clause 18.
2. What these Purchase Terms cover
- These Purchase Terms apply every time you buy Membership from us. They form part of, and should be read with, the Terms of Service, the Game Rules and the Privacy Policy. Where these Purchase Terms and the Terms of Service conflict on a question of payment, these Purchase Terms apply.
- These words mean the same thing here as they do everywhere else we use them: "Account" is your Isles of Calamity account; "Character" is a character on that Account; "Membership" is the paid status described in clause 3; and "Membership Credits" are the days of Membership held against your Account.
- In these Purchase Terms, "Payment Provider" means Stripe or PayPal, and "Duration" means one of the eight day-lengths listed in clause 4.1.
- You may only buy Membership for an Account you control, and only if you are old enough to hold an Account under the Terms of Service and legally able to make the payment. If you are under the age of majority where you live, buy only with the permission of the person whose money it is.
- We sell to consumers. Membership is for personal use. Nothing on this page creates a right to resell Membership, Membership Credits or Accounts.
3. What Membership is
- Membership is a one-time purchase of time, not a subscription. When you buy, we add Membership Credits — a number of days — to your Account. While your Account holds unexpired Membership Credits, it is a member Account and can reach the parts of the Game reserved for members, including members' worlds.
- Nothing renews and nothing recurs. We do not store a mandate to charge you again, and we do not operate any automatic renewal, recurring charge or negative-option billing. When your Membership Credits run out, your Membership simply lapses and your Account continues as a free Account. There is nothing to cancel, and no cancellation step is needed to stop being charged, because there is no further charge.
- The "autopay" setting does not charge you. Your Account settings include an autopay preference. Today that setting records a preference only: no process charges it, and no money can leave your account because of it. If we ever build recurring billing, we will not switch it on using a preference you set under these Purchase Terms. We will ask you again, separately and clearly, and we will publish updated terms with it.
- Membership Credits stack. A new purchase is added to whatever time you have left. If your Membership has already lapsed, the new days start from the moment they are credited.
- Membership Credits run in real time and do not pause. They count down by the calendar, whether or not you play, and whether or not you can play. They cannot be paused, frozen, transferred to another Account, given to another player, or converted back into money.
- Membership attaches to the Account, not to a Character. All Characters on a member Account are member Characters.
- Membership is a licence, not property. It gives you access to parts of the Game while it lasts. Consistent with clause 5 of the Terms of Service, in-game items, currency and Characters remain licensed to you and have no real-world monetary value.
- The Game is online-only. Membership is of no use without a working internet connection and a Game client, and it does not entitle you to any particular level of uptime beyond what the Terms of Service provide.
- We do not have to offer Membership at all times. We may stop offering Membership for sale, or stop offering a particular Duration or Payment Provider, at any time and without notice. That does not affect Membership Credits you already hold, which run their course as normal.
4. Durations and prices
- Membership is sold in eight Durations: 7, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 180 and 365 days. Longer Durations generally cost less per day.
- The price of each Duration is the price shown on the checkout page at the moment you buy. That page is the only price that binds either of us. Prices quoted anywhere else — including news posts, marketing pages, or a page you left open in a tab — are indicative and do not override it.
- The price shown at checkout is the total amount payable for that Duration. There is no separate booking fee, service charge or handling fee added by us.
- We do not have to price every Duration at all times. A Duration we have not priced with a Payment Provider cannot be bought, and will be refused before you reach a payment page. Nothing is charged when that happens.
- Membership Credits are not sold in fractions. You buy a whole Duration.
5. Currency — you are always charged in US dollars
- Every charge we make is in US dollars (USD). This is true whatever currency your card or PayPal account is denominated in, and whatever currency the Site displays.
- Beside the USD price we may show an approximate figure in your local currency, marked with "≈". That figure is an estimate for information only. It is not a price, not a quote, and not an amount we will charge you.
- Those estimates are calculated from European Central Bank reference rates, which we fetch about once a day. They can be out of date by up to a day or more, and they take no account of your bank's or PayPal's own conversion rate, spread, or foreign-transaction fee. The amount that leaves your account will differ from the estimate, sometimes materially.
- If we cannot reach the rate feed, we show USD prices only. This changes nothing about what you pay.
- Any conversion cost, foreign-transaction fee or cross-border fee your bank, card issuer or PayPal charges you is a matter between you and them. We do not receive it and cannot refund it.
6. Tax
- The price shown at checkout is the total you pay. We do not calculate or add a separate tax amount at checkout, and no line for tax will appear.
- Where any sales tax, VAT, GST or similar tax is due on your purchase, it is accounted for within that price. You do not pay it on top.
- If you are buying for a business and need a tax invoice, contact support@islesofcalamity.com.
7. How you pay, and what we see
- Payments are taken by our Payment Providers: Stripe (card and wallet payments) and PayPal. Which are available may change, and may depend on the Duration you choose.
- You pay on the Payment Provider's own hosted page, not on ours. Your card number never reaches our servers and we never store it. We could not retrieve it if you asked us to.
- What we do receive and keep from a completed payment is: the payer's email address, the billing postal code and country, the card brand and last four digits, the wallet type if you used one, the amount, the currency, and the Payment Provider's own reference for the transaction. We use this to credit the right Account, to answer your questions about a payment, and to process refunds. The Privacy Policy explains how we handle it.
- Your use of a Payment Provider is also governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy, which are between you and them. We are not a party to them.
- We do not control whether a Payment Provider accepts or declines your payment, and we cannot overrule a decline.
8. When the contract is made, and when your days start
- Choosing a Duration and being sent to a Payment Provider is not a contract. It is your offer to buy. Up to the moment you authorise the payment on the Payment Provider's page, nothing is charged and you can walk away by closing the page or using its cancel link.
- The contract is made when we credit the Membership Credits to your Account, which we do as soon as the Payment Provider confirms to us that your payment has succeeded. That confirmation, not the page you are returned to, is what triggers the credit.
- Your access begins immediately — as soon as the credit lands, which is normally seconds after payment. There is no waiting period. You are asking us to begin performance at once, and clause 10 explains what that means for your cancellation rights.
- Your Payment Provider will send you its own receipt. We do not currently send a separate confirmation email for a Membership purchase. Your record with us is the payment history in your billing area, which lists every credit, its Duration, its source and the Payment Provider's reference. Please keep the provider's receipt.
- Some payment methods settle slowly. If your payment is still being processed when you are returned to us, your days will appear once it settles. If it never settles, no contract is made and no days are credited.
- We may refuse or cancel an order before crediting it — for example where we suspect fraud, where the Account is banned, where a Duration is not actually available, or where a price was obviously wrong. If we do that after you have been charged, we refund you in full.
9. Information we give you before you buy
- Before you pay, we tell you: who we are and how to reach us (clause 1); what Membership is and what it does (clause 3); the Duration you are buying and its total price (clause 4); the currency you will be charged in (clause 5); how payment is taken (clause 7); when the contract is made and when your access starts (clause 8); and your cancellation rights, including how you give them up (clause 10).
- The button that commits you to pay is labelled so that it is obvious it creates an obligation to pay.
- If you are an EU or UK consumer and we have failed to give you information the law requires before you buy, that failure does not deprive you of any remedy the law gives you for it.
10. Cancellation — the 14-day right, and how you give it up (EU and UK consumers)
10.1 The right
- If you are a consumer resident in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the law normally gives you 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract without giving any reason and without penalty. For a purchase of Membership, those 14 days run from the day the contract is made — that is, the day your Membership Credits are credited (clause 8.2).
10.2 Why it matters here
- Membership is digital content that is supplied to you the instant you pay. That is the point of it: you asked for days, and you get days immediately.
- The law says that where digital content is supplied immediately with your express prior consent, and you acknowledge that this costs you the withdrawal right, the withdrawal right is lost once supply begins.
10.3 The consent we ask for — and it is required
- You cannot complete a purchase without giving this consent.
At checkout, before the button that commits you to pay, there is a tick-box
that is not ticked for you. It reads, in substance:
You must tick it yourself. If you do not tick it, the checkout will not let you continue, and nothing is charged."I want my Membership days to be added to my account straight away, and I understand that once they are added I lose my right to cancel this purchase within 14 days."
- Ticking that box is your express prior consent to us beginning supply immediately, and your acknowledgment that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal.
- The consequence is immediate and total. Because supply begins within seconds of payment, your 14-day withdrawal right is gone as soon as the days land. It does not expire gradually, and it is not reduced in proportion to the days you have used. If you are not willing to give that up, do not buy — Isles of Calamity is free to play without Membership.
- We keep a record that you gave this consent, and when.
- If we ever credit Membership Credits to you without having taken that consent and acknowledgment, then you keep the full 14-day withdrawal right, you may exercise it under clause 10.4, and you pay nothing for the days you used in the meantime.
10.4 How to withdraw, where the right still exists
- If you still have the right — because you have not yet been supplied, or because clause 10.3.5 applies — tell us before the 14 days are up. Any clear statement will do. Email support@islesofcalamity.com from the address on your Account, or contact us at support@islesofcalamity.com.
- You may use the model withdrawal form in clause 11, but you do not have to. Sending any unambiguous statement in time is enough; you do not need to give a reason.
- The deadline is met if you send your statement before the 14 days expire. It does not matter when it reaches us.
- If you withdraw validly, we reimburse all payments received from you for that purchase without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we are informed. We use the same means of payment you used, and this costs you nothing. Any Membership Credits from that purchase are removed under clause 13.
11. Model withdrawal form
Complete and return this form only if you wish to withdraw from a contract where the right still exists (see clause 10.4). You are not required to use it.
- To Pixel Glitch Studios, support@islesofcalamity.com:
- I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the provision of the following service: Isles of Calamity Membership (____ days).
- Ordered on: ____________________
- Account display name: ____________________
- Name of consumer: ____________________
- Address of consumer: ____________________
- Payment reference (from your billing history or your provider's receipt): ____________________
- Signature of consumer (only if this form is notified on paper): ____________________
- Date: ____________________
12. Refunds outside the 14-day right
- Outside the EU/UK withdrawal right in clause 10, and outside any other right the law of your country gives you, Membership purchases are not refundable as of right. Membership Credits are supplied in full the moment you pay, and we do not offer refunds for change of mind, for not playing, for playing less than you expected to, or because you no longer want the days you bought.
- We do consider refunds at our discretion, and we would rather fix a payment than argue about one. We will normally look favourably at things like: a duplicate charge; a charge you did not make and did not authorise; days that never arrived; a purchase made on your Account by a child without your permission; or a purchase you made because of something we got wrong.
- We will normally decline where the days have been used, where the request is simply a change of mind, or where the Account has broken the Game Rules in a way connected to the purchase.
- A discretionary refund in one case does not create a policy, a precedent, or a right to another one.
- To ask, contact support@islesofcalamity.com and include the payment reference from your billing history. That reference is the fastest way for us to find the payment.
- Nothing in this clause limits clause 18.
13. How refunds work, and what happens to your days
- We issue refunds through the same Payment Provider and to the same payment method used for the original purchase. We cannot refund to a different card, a different PayPal account, a different person, or as store credit, in-game gold, or Membership Credits.
- A refund may be full or partial. We will tell you which.
- When we refund a purchase, we take back the days it bought. This is not a penalty; it is what a refund means. Refunding a purchase and letting you keep the Membership would be giving the Membership away.
- Taking the days back can end your Membership immediately, even if the days would otherwise have run for weeks or months. If the clawback takes your balance below zero days, your Membership ends at once and your Account continues as a free Account.
- Losing Membership does not delete your Account, your Characters or your progress. It means the member parts of the Game close to you until you hold Membership Credits again.
- Once we send a refund, how long it takes to appear is up to your Payment Provider and your bank, not us. We cannot speed it up.
- We do not refund your bank's foreign-transaction or conversion fees (clause 5.5). Because you were charged in USD and refunded in USD, a movement in exchange rates between the two may mean the amount that lands in your account differs from the amount that left it. That difference is a function of your bank's rates and is not something we can adjust.
- We record every credit and every clawback against your Account, and you can see them in your payment history.
14. Chargebacks
- If something is wrong with a payment, please tell us first. We can almost always resolve it faster than a chargeback can, and a chargeback is a slower route to the same money.
- Nothing in these Purchase Terms stops you raising a genuine dispute with your bank, card issuer or PayPal. That right is yours and we do not ask you to give it up.
- Where a payment to us is charged back or reversed, we may remove the Membership Credits it paid for, and we may decline to sell to that Account or that payment method again. That is the same clawback described in clause 13, applied because the money has gone back to you.
- Charging back a purchase you made and used is chargeback fraud. It is a breach of the Game Rules and we may sanction the Account for it, up to and including a ban. This clause does not apply to a dispute you raise in good faith, and we will not treat a good-faith dispute as fraud.
- If your payment method was used on your Account without your permission, that is not fraud on your part. Tell us and we will help — see clause 12.2.
15. Failed, delayed and duplicate payments
- Failed payments. If your payment does not succeed, no contract is made, no days are credited, and you are not charged. You can simply try again. We do not retry a failed payment for you.
- Delayed payments. Some methods settle after you leave the payment page. Your days are credited when the payment settles, which may be minutes or longer. If your days have not appeared and your provider shows the payment as complete, contact us with the reference.
- Cancelled checkouts. If you close or cancel the payment page, nothing is charged.
- Duplicate charges. Our systems make sure that a single payment is only ever credited once, however many times your Payment Provider tells us about it. But if you genuinely buy twice — two checkouts, two charges — that is two purchases, and both sets of days are credited and stack under clause 3.4. We do not automatically detect or refuse a second purchase. If you bought twice by accident, tell us: this is exactly the case clause 12.2 exists for.
- Days that never arrive. If you have been charged and no days arrive, that is our problem to fix. Contact us with the reference from your provider's receipt and we will either credit the days or refund you.
16. What happens to your days if your Account is banned, suspended or deleted
- Membership Credits are time, and time does not stop. They count down by the calendar from the moment they are credited. Nothing pauses them.
- If your Account is banned or suspended, your days keep running down and are not refunded. You will not be able to use them, and they will expire while you cannot play. We do not extend, pause, bank or reimburse Membership Credits lost to a sanction. If you think a sanction was wrong, appeal it through support — but appeal quickly, because a successful appeal does not give back the days that elapsed.
- A ban is a consequence of breaking the Game Rules or the Terms of Service. Holding Membership does not buy any protection from one, and does not entitle you to a warning first.
- If you delete your Account, your unused days are lost and are not refunded. Deletion is your choice and we treat it as your decision to abandon whatever time is left. After the grace period described in the Privacy Policy, the Account can never be signed into again, so any remaining Membership Credits become permanently unusable. If you have days left and are not sure, wait until they lapse before deleting.
- If we permanently close the Game, we will say what we intend to do about unexpired Membership Credits at the time. Nothing in this clause affects any right you have under clause 18.
- We keep a record of payments, refunds and Membership credits even after an Account is deleted, because we are required to and because it protects us both. The Privacy Policy explains what survives and for how long.
17. Price and benefit changes
- We can change the price of any Duration at any time, and we can add or remove Durations.
- A price change never affects a purchase you have already made. Because each purchase is a one-off and nothing renews, there is no ongoing price to change. You pay the price shown at the moment you buy, and that is the end of it. If the price falls next week, we do not owe you the difference; if it rises, we cannot come back for more.
- What Membership unlocks is part of the Game and may change as the Game changes, in line with clause 6 of the Terms of Service. Isles of Calamity is in active development. We will not remove a benefit that was the main reason a reasonable player bought their current Membership Credits without either restoring it, offering equivalent access, or offering a fair refund of the unused portion.
18. Your statutory rights come first
- If you are a consumer, you have rights under the law of the country where you live that a contract cannot take away. Nothing in these Purchase Terms limits or excludes those rights, and where anything here conflicts with them, your rights win and that part of these Purchase Terms does not apply to you.
- In particular, if you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, choosing California law in clause 20 does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your own country, and does not stop you bringing proceedings in the courts of your own country.
- If you are an EU or UK consumer, this includes your rights where digital content is faulty, is not as described, or is not supplied at all. Those remedies exist alongside — not instead of — anything we offer under clause 12.
- If any part of these Purchase Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
19. Complaints and dispute resolution
- If you are unhappy with a purchase, complain to us first at support@islesofcalamity.com. Tell us what happened, include your payment reference, and tell us what you want us to do. We will look at it properly.
- We are a very small operation. We do not have a formal complaints department, and your complaint will be read by a person, not routed through a process. That is usually faster.
- We are not committed to, and do not participate in, any alternative dispute resolution or ombudsman scheme, and we are not obliged to use one. If we cannot resolve your complaint between us, you are free to take it further through the courts, and clause 18.2 preserves your right to do so where you live.
- The European Commission's online dispute resolution platform is no longer in operation, so it is not a route available to you. We mention it only because other websites still link to it.
- If you are an EU or UK consumer, your national consumer-protection authority or your local European Consumer Centre can advise you on your rights independently of us.
20. Governing law
- These Purchase Terms, and any dispute arising out of them, are governed by the laws of the State of California and the federal laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
- Subject to clause 18, the state and federal courts located in California have jurisdiction.
- Clause 20.1 and 20.2 are subject to clause 18. If you are a consumer resident outside the United States, this clause does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, or of the right to bring a claim in your local courts.
- The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
21. Changes to these Purchase Terms
- We may change these Purchase Terms. The version that applies to a purchase is the version published when you made it, and we do not apply changes retrospectively to Membership Credits you already hold.
- We update the "last updated" date at the top when we change anything, and we will give notice of material changes in the way the Terms of Service provide.
22. Contact
- Anything about a payment, a refund, or these Purchase Terms: support@islesofcalamity.com, or Pixel Glitch Studios.
- Include the payment reference from your billing history or your Payment Provider's receipt. It is the single fastest thing you can give us.
